What exams can I take?
Examination courses are for students who want or need a formal qualification in English, and we offer a wide range of different programmes depending on your needs.
We may give you an examination entry test so that we can advise you on the most appropriate examination for your level of English.
Exam entry fees are not included.
You can do a full 10 or 12 week preparation course or you can book just a few weeks to assist your own exam preparation.
Cambridge FCE Course

This mid-level exam course is for you if you have studied 6-8 years of English at school. It is widely recognised by schools, colleges and employers. Students are expected to set aside extra time after school for homework and revision.
Courses start on 05/01/10 for 10 weeks or 23/03/10 and 14/09/10 for 12 weeks.
Exam dates are 13th March, 12th June and 4th December 2010.
This course offers a total of 30 lessons (22.5 hours) per week tuition, comprising of:
- 20 lessons (15 clock hours) English tuition per week in Standard English groups maximum 12 students in the mornings from 09.00 - 12.30, Mondays to Fridays.
- 10 lessons (7.5 clock hours) per week FCE tuition in groups maximum 12 students* in the afternoons from 13.30 - 15.00, Mondays to Fridays.
Requirements:
- Upper Intermediate level and above
- Minimum age 17 years
There is an extra cost for the exam course book and exam entry fee of about £120
Please note that when booking flights and accommodation - some exam dates take place after the end of the course.
* If there are no other FCE students at your level, you will be offered 3 one-to-one lessons per week in the afternoons.

Cambridge CAE Course

This advanced exam course is for you if you need evidence of your English ability for professional purposes. Some universities and colleges also require it for entrance. Students are expected to set aside extra time after school for homework and revision, and it is helpful, but not essential, if you have already passed the FCE.
Courses start on 04/01/10 for 10 weeks or 22/03/10 and 13/09/10 for 12 weeks.
Exam dates are 13th March, 12th June and 4th December 2010.
This course offers a total of 30 lessons (22.5 hours) per week tuition, comprising of:

Cambridge CPE Course

This course is for you if you need evidence that your level of English is near native level. Students are expected to set aside extra time after school for homework and revision, and it is helpful, but not essential, if you have already passed the CAE.
Courses start on 22/03/10 and 13/09/10 for 12 weeks.
Exam dates are 12th June and 4th December 2010.
This course offers a total of 30 lessons (22.5 hours) per week tuition, comprising of:
- 20 lessons (15 clock hours) English tuition per week in Standard English groups maximum 12 students in the mornings from 09.00 - 12.30, Mondays to Fridays.
- 10 lessons (7.5 clock hours) per week CPE tuition in groups maximum 12 students* in the afternoons from 13.30-15.00, Mondays to Fridays.
Requirements:
- Proficiency level
- Minimum age 17 years

IELTS

IELTS is a test which you can take once a month at a local university. It tests the range of English language skills which you will need if you go on to study further in England. It is also sometimes required for professionals coming to work in the UK, for example doctors and dentists.
We offer Intensive preparation for IELTS all year round. The IELTS test can be taken in Exeter or Plymouth once a month and costs an additional £105 entry fee. Transport to the exam is included.
Please note that if you want to do the test while you are in Totnes, you should inform us as soon as possible as it is very popular and demand for places is high. Exam fees cost approximately £100.
