How does English Plus work?
- You attend a Standard English or Mini Group course in the mornings. Here you have 3 hours English language tuition every day to develop your speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
- You either do special workshops or go to local places of interest with a teacher or workshop leader in the afternoons.
- You have a minimum of 6 hours per week (6 x 60 mins) afternoon workshops or excursions depending on your choice of English Plus course.
- Small groups maximum 6 with a teacher or workshop leader.*
What makes English Plus special?
- You can improve your English by using the language in real situations.
- You can meet and talk to English people.
- You don't just learn English - you can also develop an existing interest or learn something new in English.
- You work in small groups of not more than 6 students.
- You follow a carefully structured programme with worksheets and homework assignments so that you make the best possible use of your time.

English Plus English in Action

This course aims to practise English in fun, real-life situations, to learn about English culture, history and social life and to practise listening and speaking to native speakers.
3 afternoons (6 clock hours) per week tuition outside the classroom with an English teacher. Each lesson involves going to a place of local interest with your teacher and is accompanied by notes and activities so that you return home with a full set of extra study material.
Requirements:
- 17 years and above
- Elementary level of English and above
- Maximum 6 students*
* If there are not enough people to run the course then you will receive 4 one-to-ones per week in the afternoons.

English Plus Natural Health

This course aims to practise speaking and listening in English while you enjoy learning more about complementary approaches to health and well-being.
3 afternoons (6 clock hours) per week made up of 3 workshops per week in different natural health therapies led by qualified practitioners plus a language focus session before each workshop with your teacher.
English language support from one of our English teachers. Your teacher will also help you with the introductory notes of each session. For each session you will receive a worksheet with an overview of the complementary therapy, key vocabulary, expressions and follow-up exercises.
Natural Health therapies such as aromatherapy, reiki, shiatsu, yoga, reflexology and more.
Requirements:
- 17 years and above
- Intermediate level of English and above
- Maximum 6 students*

English Plus Creative Art

This course aims to practise English in real situations with the guidance of a teacher so you can improve your accuracy and fluency and to work with local artists to develop your creative self.
3 afternoons (6 clock hours) per week language tuition with an English teacher and practical workshops in creative arts with an art teacher in which you can use your English while also working creatively. You will be given weekly worksheets to develop your language skills and extend your vocabulary.
Creative Arts such as batik, watercolour painting, photography, pastels, acrylic, candle-making etc.
Requirements:
- 17 years and above
- Elementary level of English and above
- Maximum 6 students*

English Plus Castles and Gardens

This course aims to extend your English learning from your morning classes to the afternoon and enjoy speaking English (and being corrected!) in beautiful surroundings as well as learning about English history and culture.
2 afternoon trips (6 clock hours) per week to South Devon's fascinating gardens and castles with your English teacher. Each trip has a different language focus, with new vocabulary, expressions and langauge points for you to learn whilst finding out more about English plants, gardens and local history.
Requirements:
- 17 years and above
- Elementary level of English and above
- Maximum 6 students*
* If there is only one student booked for your course, you will receive two afternoons per week (total 4 clock hours) doing the activities on a One-to-One basis.

English Plus Work Experience

This course aims to work in and English Business, meet English customers and practise your listening and speaking skills with English people in a natural way. This is a wonderful combination of structured learning and real-life practice!
12 clock hours per week voluntary (unpaid) internship in a local shop or business. This allows you to learn work related vocabulary in situ and to bring what you have learned back into the classroom to share with your classmates and teacher. Pre-placement interview and visit to company plus post-placement certificate included.
Placements for work experience are in charity shops, small local businesses selling a variety of products from websites to kitchen units, local tourism centres like the museum or Totnes Tourist Information Centre.
Requirements:
- 17 years and above
- Intermediate level of English and above*
- To be taken with Standard English only
* If students have a lower level of English, then we reserve the right to keep the students within our Standard English programme for the duration of their stay.
